What size wire do I need for this project? I will be installing a ground and doing all the necessary things involved for this. The approx wattage of the load is watts, and about 40 amps total with no large appliances. This sub panel will be supplying power to a stationary RV motor home. I have looked at all the formulas but this is the most complex part. I just need the size wire for the distance of the wire run. Thank you in advance. This area is out in the country. This home electrical wiring question came from:

Most main amp service is the neutral and grounds are all together. And it does not matter if your grounds and neturals are tied together. All houses are grounded to code. Running two one ten breakers makes double pole makes it because you got two hots. Ac current is not dc current. I look at it this way you need a hot and a neutral to make with out a voltage drop you have

In the sub panel, the neutral bus and ground bus were connected, so any neutral circuit current that should have traveled back on the main neutral to the main panel was forced to travel on the local ground wiring and grounding conductors.

Having a standby generator can save you, your family or your facility, from having to experience occasional power outages from increment weather and it offers a certain sense of extra security. Before purchasing a personal generator, protect yourself and your family by following the safety instructions contained in every generator operations manual, and make sure to ask yourself the following questions: How will you be using the generator? Is the generator the correct size application for the use you have in mind?

How will it be installed? Where is it safe to operate it? Portable Generators Portable, gasoline-driven generators are designed to be used for appliances with cords connected to them. They can be especially convenient to use in remote locations, such as camping sites or construction areas. Lights, small appliances, etc. Typically, they are not designed to be connected to your home or any building wiring.

Do not attempt to personally install these devices to your electrical panel.

There is a main service rated panel that is rated for the main service rated panel serving your dwelling that you can install a component to the bottom of the buss of that panel that will accept the feeder going to your garage through your main dwelling’s main service rated panel.

Furniture Miscellaneous If only two people will be using the van you’ll have more then enough room to play with. If three or more souls are going to travel on board, the first thing to consider is having enough seats for everyone. Remember that seats have to be certified and equipped with legal safety- belts. How many beds will you need? You can consider a double bunk bed for the kids or if you have a high-top roof, a drop down bed on the roof level can be a neat solution.

At this stage you should have a blueprint of your basic layout, because it’s important to know what goes where when you build your own camper. You will improvise later on of course, but it’s a lot easier if you have everything in on paper right now. Exterior Work The first thing to do when preparing the base vehicle, is to thoroughly clean out the inside of the van, unless you have a brand new toy to play with. Another point to consider at this stage is the overall shape of the bodywork.

One breaker will go on to the barn about 75′ with wire. The other breaker the opposite direction with another wire about 65′ to an outdoor outlet for a heater this winter in the water trough. Considering you are installing what is likely 15A or 20A receptacles, you should be using 20A breakers. And then, due to the distance, your wire gauge is too small. You should perform some voltage drop calculations.

Eaton’s BR Spa Panels are an economic solution for reliable protection. They meet all NEC requirements for spa pumps and hot tubs and provide a ground fault circuit interruption device and a disconnect switch in a single simple device.

Example of wiring a detached garage or detached building designed as a storage garage. No minimum electrical wiring is required in a detached garage at all, if you do not install electricity to that structure. You have several options in the designs to supply power to the detached structure from your dwelling. There is a detailed section included at that link providing the explanations that you may desire related to the service in the dwelling or in the detached structure or both.

If you are attempting to wire a garage that is detached as an accessory building to a dwelling, then the absolute minimum wiring that would meet the minimum safety standards set forth in the NEC would be suggested as follows: Minimum wiring required if electricity serves that detached structure The minimum wiring required in a detached garage, that has electricity installed to the structure, would include switches at the service [human] door to control a light inside the structure, Article A-2and a light serving the stoop outside the garage service door.

Vehicular doors of a garage are exempt from any lighting requirements. A minimum of one GFCI protected receptacle somewhere inside the attached garage is also required. Any second switch at any second service door is only voluntary and not required to meet minimum safety standards. There is an exception available considering the stoop light. If you have a dusk to dawn light that is always on automatic such as a photo cell, then that dusk to dawn light may serve as that garage stoop light if that dusk to dawn light is left in automatic control and if that dusk to dawn light also lights that stoop area outside the garage service door.

Article A Exception If you desire to provide more wiring you might want to check the following electrical requirements, if present, in an attached garage:

Installing a New Subpanel – Part 2

Typical RVs with a single air conditioning unit and more modest standards of provision need a 30 amp service. All RVs need an electrical hook-up box, sometimes called an outlet or receptacle, to plug into. Decide what level of provision the electrical hook-up box must answer. Hook-up boxes are available with single amp and single amp outlets, and with multiple outlets, featuring a amp outlet served by a amp breaker, a amp outlet served by a amp breaker and a number of amp outlets served by a amp breakers.

Buy a rainproof electrical hook-up box with a cut-out design, so that the cover can be closed with the shore power cord in place. Some designs of hook-up boxes are available rated as “industrial,” which means they are built of heavy material and are equipped with heavy contacts.

wiring inlet box to panel. my house,i have everything i need except i dont know what kind of wire to get to go from the inlet box to the elecrical panel inside the basement. i will be using the interlock kit for the has a 30 amp plug. i need to know what size wire i should use for this.i also need to get a breaker for the panel,it.

The detailed step-by-step instructions and pictures will simplify this more complex project. Figure 1 — Original Panel My customer had just purchased the house, and he needed to renovate his basement in order to accommodate his collection of reptiles, spiders, amphibians and other creatures. Figure 2 — Cuddly Snake! Figure 3 — Original Panel Cover Removed Planning The first step should always be planning, as a project such as this is fairly complex.

Take the time to think through the necessary steps to complete the job, ensure that you have the appropriate tools and materials, and that all appropriate safety requirements are being followed. Remember — Safety First! If you are at all unsure about tackling a project like this, leave it to a reputable electrical contractor. Good lighting is critical when working on this type of project, so I would recommend that you arrange for an external light source, such as a good battery operated light, or a portable generator outside.

Run in an extension cord to a portable work light, or a trouble light. This will allow you to work in the original panel to make the required changes with the main breaker off, which will de-energize the bus bars in the panel.

How to Wire an Amp Service Panel. The electrical panel in a home provides the main interface between electrical circuitry and the power company’s lead-ins. Safety features include a main disconnect that trips if the power load exceeds its rating. Most small homes can be serviced by a amp breaker, because appliances, even though some may be.

I used a 6 by 6 by 6 metal box for this. The junction box out at the array. The grey PVC conduit goes to the house. The black cord comes from the first in the line of micro-inverters. The junction box is supported on MDO plywood, which is very water resistant — its what freeway signs are made of. I did this wiring before connecting the micro-inverter cables to the PV panels, and before connecting the new circuit breaker to the house power, so there was no power applied to this circuit during the wiring from either the PV end or the house power end.

You will need one of these. The wiring connections in the junction box are: The grounding lug should be attached to the box with a self tapping screw so that it makes good electrical contact with the box.
